This class combines fun, practical knowledge, and a concise approach using handbuilding techniques leading up to throwing on the potters wheel. This class is suitable for both the beginner and intermediate level student. The instructor will go over the basics of wheel throwing - wedging, centering, pulling, trimming, and finishing the clay to provide students with skills to make basic forms such as cups and bowls. For more advanced level students, help will be given in design, refining the form, and improving basic throwing skills to tackle more complex forms and designs.

Instructor will discuss glazing and finishing techniques and students will take home several finished pieces of functional pottery. The Centre provides all tools, equipment, glazes and firings. Students purchase clay from the Centre.

Originally from Fredericton, Elizabeth studied pottery and textiles at the NB College of Craft & Design. After many years in Arts Administration and working at her art part-time, Elizabeth moved to Cape Breton in 2008 and began to work full-time as a potter. Elizabeth uses all methods and techniques in working with clay—thrown, slab and slip cast, even making her own molds. Elizabeth’s work can be found in private collections in Canada, USA, and abroad.
