Mi’kmaw Basket Weaving (Introductory Level)

April 24 – June 5, 2017 (Mondays, 6 weeks)
6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Learn the traditional art of Mi’kmaw basket making with artist Virick Francis.

Virick is from Eskasoni First Nations and has been making traditional Mi’kmaw baskets since he was a child. He learned how to make them from observing his grandmother, mother and father make baskets. He uses thin wood strips from black ash trees in Mariah, Quebec to create his artwork. Materials can be purchased from the Instructor.

Basket making is a very relaxing and grounding activity. At the end of the class you will have a finished basket to take home and the knowledge of how to make it yourself. (No class on May 22)
