Product Assessment
The mandate of Cape Breton Centre for Craft and Design is to assist in the development and promotion of fine craft in Cape Breton through education and training. One of the services offered at the Centre is jurying. Recently, the Centre reviewed and edited its jury standards, jury process, committee structure, and even changed the name to product assessment process. This process is designed to assist artisans improve the quality and marketability of their products. The assessment is carried out by a committee of craft practitioners, marketers, and professionals who are selected for their skills and experience in craft production, design, and marketing.
Once an artisan’s work is accepted by the committee, his or her name is entered in the Centre’s registry of assessed craftspeople indicating a level of excellence in skill and craftsmanship. This rating gives access to various marketing programs and opportunities available only to assessed members.
The committee meets four to five times a year. You are welcome and encouraged to have your work assessed and take advantage of the opportunities afforded assessed artisans.
