Using acrylic paint and paper or canvas you will learn methods and skills to create still life and landscape paintings. You will explore what makes things look close up and far away and how different colours interact. There are techniques for “getting it right” but the fulfillment of inspiration and the enjoyment are the main points for this course.  (No class on September 30, October 14, November 11)

Supply List:
Large sketch pad (Dollar Store)
4b or 6b pencil, white eraser, sharpener
11×14 Mixed Media (vellum surface) pad or buy individual sheets at the class ($2 each)
Four or more 11 x 14 inch or bigger stretched canvases
Four or more paint brushes, rounds and flats, small to half inch
Medium sized tubes of acrylic paint: cadmium red, cadmium or lemon yellow, cobalt blue, sap or hunters green, burnt umber and zinc or titanium white or kit containing 8 or so similar colours

Catherine Moir is an experienced visual artist established within the art community in Cape Breton. She works with oil or acrylic paint outside and then in her studio at her home in Sydney Forks. In 2012 she was commissioned to make four landscape paintings to be on permanent display at Open Hearth Park. She created the Visual Art Series during the Celtic Colours Festival and facilitated PierScape Arts Festival for many years. For the past nine years she has been the coordinator for the Art of Living Program which helps people with cancer to create and enjoy art within the cancer experience. She has exhibited in solo and group shows at the Centre for Craft and Design, Cape Breton University, St. Francis Xavier University and for Visual Arts Nova Scotia. She has taught courses at the Centre for Craft Design and in her studio.
