Learn to reduce, reuse and reinvent what you have! Find a way to love your old items again, and get creative in the process. If you have old clothing or home items that you don’t use much anymore, bring them to our workshop to give them a new life. Each participant will receive a handout providing background information on common indigo dyeing techniques. Then, under the instruction of a trained textile artist, they will receive one-on-one consultation on how to execute their vision for their item. Collaboration is encouraged. (Please bring a lunch.)
To ensure the indigo can be absorbed, please bring a light colored item to class. Make sure the fabric is a natural fibre. It must be majority cotton, linen, silk or rayon (which includes Tencel, Modal, or Cupro.) Polyester or Nylon items will not dye in natural indigo. If you need help determining this, contact the instructor at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Town of Port Hawkesbury is a proud sponsor of the Customs House courses and workshops.
