NSCAD – Cape Breton Centre for Craft

NSCAD

NSCAD COMMUNITY STUDIO RESIDENCY

The Community Studio Residency program through NSCAD offers recent NSCAD University graduates the opportunity to develop their practice through donated studio space in a residency site within Nova Scotia. As part of the program, our residents work with community members and students to increase interest in the arts.

The purpose of the Community Studio Residency Program is to offer recent graduates the opportunity to develop their art practice and develop professional skills while living in a rich, artistic and cultural community. As part of the program, residents work with elementary and secondary school students and offer workshops and lectures in the local community.
"Doing a residency at the Cape Breton Centre for Craft provided me with a quiet space and time to experiment with new techniques and use equipment I would other wise not have access to. With this access, I was able to continue working on ideas I had started long ago and expand my practice in exciting directions using mediums like weaving and rug hooking. It also allowed me to connect with local artists and experience the vibrant and rich craft communities that have formed in Sydney over decades."
