In this workshop, participants will learn a variety of decorating techniques to use on clay. Using coloured underglazes, slips, paper, and a few basic tools, many methods will be introduced including mishima, scraffito, slip trailing, mono printing, and paper resist.

Pre-made tiles will be provided for practicing these techniques. No previous clay experience needed. The Centre provides the clay, tools, equipment, glazes and firings.

Alana Wilsonholds her BFA from NSCAD University and her MFA in Ceramics from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. Though she dabbles in many mediums, her main focus has always been on clay. Alana employs a variety of hand building techniques in her own work which has dealt with the themes of nostalgia and nomadism. Currently an artist in residence at the Cape Breton Centre for Craft and Design, Alana is excited to be back in Nova Scotia and to share her clay knowledge and process.
