Mug Night 19+ Event – Cape Breton Centre for Craft & Design

Mug Night 19+ Event

Mug Night, 19+ Event
Date: March 22, 2024
Time: 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm
Instructor: Elizabeth Samson
Fee: $60 per class (tax included)

Elizabeth Samson for many years has enjoyed the rewards of art through the blending of colour, creative design and varying mediums. Her introduction to working with clay began in the 1970’s where she worked with slip at Steele Ceramics. In the 1980’s, Liz had the opportunity of working with Sister Catherine Rooney, who started The Mad Potters. Sister Catherine had previously directed The Mount Saint Bernard School of Pottery in Antigonish.

Liz was introduced to local clays and the use of the potter’s wheel, in addition to regular production duties. Since those days her interests leaned more towards other endeavors such as sewing knitting and rug hooking.

Liz’s passion for clay has been renewed and has come full circle with her now teaching at Cape Breton Centre for Craft & Design.

Where Should I go?
Use the rear entrance and proceed to the multi-purpose room (same level)

This is a fun and easy two-hour class of guided instructions to help create your very own mug. It is beginner level with no previous experience required. All pieces will be dishwasher and microwave safe. The workshop fee includes all materials, clay, glazes and firing, tools and equipment. Most work will be ready for pick up two weeks later. We’ll dry and fire your artwork in our kiln for you to take home approximately 14 days later and we will send you an email as soon as your mug has been fired and is ready to drink in!

Kiln clay explosions are unlikely but they do happen. In the event of your art being damaged due to a kiln explosion, we are happy to provide emotional support and offer you a chance to come in and remake your clay art piece. Students are reminded to sign their work.  Otherwise, we cannot promise your work won’t be mixed up with someone else’s.

When Should I Arrive?
Arrive 15 minutes early to get settled and grab your wine before you experience begins. Please enter by the rear entrance located on the Esplanade and proceed to the multi-purpose room (same level)

What Should I Wear?
We recommend wearing comfortable, casual clothes that you do not mind getting clay on. We will provide an apron!
