Pottery, Open Studio (Intermediate to Advanced Level)
Pottery, Open Studio (Intermediate to Advanced Level)
Date: September 21 – November 16, 2026 (Mondays, 8 weeks)
Time: 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Fee: $170.48 + HST (Members) | $193.80 + HST (Non-Members)
We are offering a weekly open studio for students who have completed two to three 8-week pottery sessions and wish to continue practicing independently. Please note that this is not a beginner class; students must have previous experience and be able to work without guidance during the open studio.
If you are interested in joining, kindly provide a brief description of your pottery experience. You may choose to focus on hand-building or wheel throwing during the open studio.
(No class October 12)
As part of the open studio process, all students must adhere to basic studio etiquette guidelines to ensure a safe and respectful environment for everyone:
- Wear appropriate clothing, closed-toe shoes, and tie back long hair
- Sign a liability release waiver
- Follow dust-control practices (wet-clean surfaces, no sweeping, no sanding)
- Begin cleaning up at least 20 minutes before closing
- Clean and return all tools after use
- Wipe down pottery wheels after each use
- Dispose of clay and glaze waste correctly (do not throw clay into the sink)
- Label all work with your name
- Avoid bringing guests or food into the studio
- Wear a mask when mixing glazes (always recommended)
- Abandoned, dried-out, or unlabeled pieces will be discarded after 30 days
- Kiln explosions are unlikely, but they do happen. If artwork is damaged due to a kiln explosion, we are happy to provide you with an opportunity to remake it
- Firing schedules depend on the amount of work and will be communicated by Tammy
- To prevent kiln shelf damage, the bottom of all pieces must be wiped clean of glaze
Advance registration for members begins September 1
