Knitting for Beginners
Date: April 28 – June 2 (Tuesdays, 6 weeks)
Time: 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm

Want to continue building your knitting skills? This class will reinforce the basics learned in beginner knitting while developing new abilities such as increasing, decreasing and patterns reading. Once again, we will create a dishcloth that incorporates the new skills.

Materials required:
Large-eyed blunt sewing needle
Measuring tape
One set of 5mm straight knitting needles
One 50 gm ball of Handicrafter worsted-weight cotton
Note pad and pencil or pen

Alison Hood originally from Ontario Alison Hood, moved to Cape Breton with her family in 2023. Alison has over 35 years of knitting, and professional teaching experience. Alison’s passion for knitting and all things fiber is infectious, and she creates a fun, informative learning environment, filled with engaging stories, helpful tips, and just the right amount of detail to keep things interesting without overwhelming her students.

Alison has taught knitting at Micheals, local yarn stores, community groups, and facilitated a variety of workshops She has also been part of a team that hosts yearly knitting retreats. She knit garments to be photographed for Sugar Bush Yarns pattern books. She has studied the role of knitting in communication, spirituality, and culture giving papers on the various roles of knitting at international academic conferences in Canada, Australia, Mexico, Finland, and England.
