Judy Parnell
Judy is a recent “transplant” to Cape Breton, moving to Cheticamp Island from a rural life in Ontario. Textiles, and fibres in general, have always played an important part in her life, both growing up and as an adult. As a young woman on a sheep farm, she taught herself first to spin, continued with dyeing, and found knitting was the natural conclusion with an abundance of yarn at hand. Weaving was an early interest as well, and has been a welcome addition to her ongoing interest in creating usable textiles. Judy had been hooking rugs for many years prior to moving here, and now finds the beauty of the highlands and constantly changing skies and waters to be a source of constant inspiration for her pieces.
