Hailey Storm
Hailey Storm is a self taught mixed Mi’kmaq/Euro Settler artist and painter. Her work depicts various subjects including imagery and symbolism from the Mi’kmaq culture, teachings and traditions, as well as portraits, realism and scenery from her home in Unama’ki. Her paintings allow her to not only reconnect with her Mi’kmaq heritage, but to share it with others. Storm’s work has been featured in local art shows and galleries since a youth, including Whitney Piers “Pierscape” Art Gallery (2014), CBRM ConnectArts “Emerging Artists Public Gallery” (2020), YouthArtConnection “Artprenuers: Virtual Art Gallery” (2021), Downtown Sydney Association “Art Walk” permanent installation (2024), and most recently, has curated a two day gallery event for local emerging and establishes artists, exhibiting work from 8 artists residing in Cape Breton. With no formal secondary education in the arts, the mission behind creating these paintings comes with a responsibility to introduce a space that is more inclusive and welcoming to those that share a similar path. “There is nothing that cant be taught, and the 13 years of learning, creating and becoming a better artist, is what makes you an “overnight success”.
