Weekly Open Studio for students who have completed two to three 8 weeks sessions and want to continue the practice. This is not a beginner class – students must have previous experience and be able to work independently. * There is no guidance provided during this time.

If you are interested in joining, I ask that you provide a brief description of your pottery experience. You may choose to do hand building or wheel throwing. (No class October 13)

Part of the open studio process is basic studio etiquette, students must:

  • treat the people, studio, and equipment with care and respect and kindness
  • be considerate of others work, do not touch, move or bump work that does not belong to you
  • wear appropriate clothing, closed toed footwear and long hair must be tied back
  • sign a liability release form
  • no sanding of pottery is allowed in the studio as clay dust is respiratory health hazard when air born.
  • glazes contain hazardous elements-avoid skin contact and wash your hands thoroughly after working with clay or glazes to remove any residue
  • must wear a mask if mixing glazes. Mask are recommended in the studio!
  • start cleanup at least 20 minutes before the studio closes; you should be totally cleaned up by class or open studio end time
  • minimize dust by using a wet sponge. Wet wipe surfaces – never sweep! Wipe down the pottery wheel after each use. Place pedal, cord, and stool on top of wheel
  • if you use the studios tools, be sure to clean them properly and return them to their designated areas
  • rinse out any sponges you’ve used and put them away
  • be mindful of clay clogging pipes. Avoid throwing large pieces of clay into the sink
  • place clay scraps & slip in recycle bucket; nothing from the floor or sink goes in the recycle bucket. Put it in the trash instead
  • students are reminded to sign their work. Otherwise, we cannot promise your work won’t be mixed up with someone else’s
  • abandoned, dried out or not labeled pieces will be discarded after 30 days
  • do not allow guests, including family and children in the studio during this time
  • do not bring food in the studio (this helps prevent accidental ingestions of dust or other materials)
  • kiln clay explosions are unlikely, but they do happen. In the event of your art being damaged due to a kiln explosion, we are happy to provide you a chance to come in and remake your clay art piece
  • please report any damage or other problems to Tammy – 539 -7491 ext:111 or tammy@capebretoncraft.com

Fees includes the use of tools, equipment and glazes. Students can purchase clay from the Centre. Please arrange firings with Tammy.
