Basic Skills: Learn to Knit Cables (Intermediate Level)

Come and learn the basic techniques for cabled knitting allowing you to add texture and dimension to your work. Students will learn how read a cable pattern, practice cable techniques, and discover the basic rules, tips and tricks to make cabling enjoyable. **Students must already know how to knit.
Materials Required:
One pair of 4 mm straight knitting needles
One cable needle
50-100 g of worsted-weight yarn in one colour
Stitch markers (optional)
Large eyed darning needle
Scissors, Notebook and pencil
Alison Hood originally from Ontario Alison Hood, moved to Cape Breton with her family in 2023. Alison has over 35 years of knitting, and professional teaching experience. Alison’s passion for knitting and all things fiber is infectious, and she creates a fun, informative learning environment, filled with engaging stories, helpful tips, and just the right amount of detail to keep things interesting without overwhelming her students.
Alison has taught knitting at Micheals, local yarn stores, community groups, and facilitated a variety of workshops. She has also been part of a team that hosts yearly knitting retreats. She knit garments to be photographed for Sugar Bush Yarns pattern books. She has studied the role of knitting in communication, spirituality, and culture giving papers on the various roles of knitting at international academic conferences in Canada, Australia, Mexico, Finland and England.
