Hand Weaving (Introductory to Intermediate Level)
Date: April 17 – June 5, 2025 (Thursdays, 8 weeks)
Time: 6 pm to 9 pm
Instructor: Diane Campbell
Fee: $132 plus HST (Members) | Fee: $150.48 plus HST (Non-Members)

This course covers everything you need to know to weave on your own. It is specially designed for beginners, so no experience is necessary! With twenty four hours of instruction we will cover warping, dressing the loom, weaving plain weave and twill structures, pattern reading, warp and weft calculations as well as general discussion about materials used and loom types.  During this class each student will prepare and weave a scarf or sampler to take home. Everything will be provided – use of 4-shaft looms, equipment, supplies, and detailed student notes.

Those with weaving experience are welcome to join the class.  The instructor will work you from the design of your project through the weaving process to cutting it off the loom.  These students are required to provide the fibres for their project.  Students are welcome to work on the project of their choice – twills, tartans, overshot and more.  The choice is yours!

Materials Needed:
Good sharp scissors
Notebook and Pencil
Calculator or one on cell phone
Measuring tape

Diane Campbell has been weaving since 1990 when she began learning from mentor and friend Patricia McClelland. Diane has a great appreciation for fine craft and textiles in particular. She has tried her hand at hooked rugs, quilt making, felting and more but it is the call of the loom that continually draws her back to weaving. Diane enjoys creating a wide variety of handwovens – from household linens to tartan throws, rugs and overshot coverlets.
