Crafting Community
One of our top priorities is engaging communities in the transformative power of craft. We do this through a variety of programming including educational workshops, residencies, and exhibitions.
We want to provide consistent, and accessible craft and art programming across the Island. There are significant gaps in accessing specialized equipment for craft educational programming in Island communities and we want to make this our focus in the coming year. We know that craft and cultural participation improve overall health, mental health, and community belonging. In a pandemic world, access to craft education is more important than ever.
Our plan is to mobilize a library of specialized equipment for use in craft education to provide residents with the opportunity to engage in hands-on creativity. We’re calling this campaign Crafting Community and we need your help to make it a reality!
Crafting Community will provide consistent craft programming in communities such as Ingonish, St. Peter’s, Port Hawkesbury, Louisbourg, We’koqma’q, Chéticamp, Eskasoni, and Scotsville. Craft media offered will include clay, weaving, jewellery, drawing, painting, rug hooking, sewing, photography, knitting, and more!
To make Crafting Community a reality, we need $30,000 to purchase equipment and launch this important program. Will you help us?
With your assistance, we can continue to innovate and develop more equitable outreach programming on Unama’ki Cape Breton Island so that underserved communities can engage in craft and art programming.
Can we count on your support to provide craft education Island wide?
