In Someone Else’s Shoes
Cape Breton Centre for Craft & Design is pleased to introduce in someone else’s shoes, an exhibition by Solskin Brask (SKE). The opening reception will take place on Thursday, December 16 at 6:00 p.m. in the Centre’s Loft.
in someone else’s shoes is new, immersive work that seeks to explore the form and function of shoes and their relationship to a more fluid sense of identity, personhood and gender. Using slip-casting techniques to create sculptural ceramics, in someone else’s shoes speaks to the changing nature of personhood, which is shaped by, and in turn shapes, personal and social perceptions of cultural and aesthetic values.
Through this project, SKE explores the transformation for the shoe; translating them from a fibre object to one of clay and glass; transferring their function from footwear to that of a vase; transposing their form with that of a human bust.
in someone else’s shoes will be displayed in the Centre’s Loft until January 29, 2022.
