Eligibility

To qualify, individuals must:

• Be new or emerging craftspeople with design and technical skills.
• Show talent and innovation.
• Want a full-time career as a professional craftsperson.
• Have at least the beginnings of a marketable craft product line with the potential for creative and technical development.
• Ability to work without a studio technician, and to problem-solve technical issues with equipment.

Who we’re looking for?

This is an open call for artists, craftspeople, craft practitioners, and artisans.

We have space available for one jeweler, one potter, and the third position is open-ended. You can be a weaver, bead worker, basket weaver, embroiderer, knitter, small-scale sculptor, or more!

Application Dates

We hold interviews for places at Customs House throughout the year; please submit your application at any time.

We review applications received every month; this means you will hear from us if you are to be invited for an interview within 4 weeks of your submission.

Please note we cannot give feedback on your application if you are not invited to interview. Please ensure that you have read the Application Information, paying attention to the criteria for selection.

COVID-19 Regulations

Depending on the COVID-19 provincial regulations, the Centre can help you find a place to do the two-week self-isolation and make be able to help you financially. 

Fees

Subsidized rent is based on the following sliding scale:

• Year One: $125 per month
• Year Two: $150 per month
• Year Three: $175 per month

Please note that these rental amounts include HST, snow removal, commercial general liability insurance, heat and lights, Wi-Fi, point of sale system, and business occupancy tax – and – are subject to change.
