Sustainable Craft Symposium
The Sustainable Craft Symposium was held on September 16, 2022 at the Membertou Trade & Convention Centre (50 Maillard St, Membertou).
The Sustainable Craft Symposium was a gathering of artists, arts & culture sector workers and sustainability practitioners who are working on the sustainable development of the Unama’ki Cape Breton Island Craft Sector. The symposium provided an opportunity to learn about sustainable arts practices and to co-develop a path forward toward a more sustainable craft sector for Unama’ki.
As well as a program of community speakers and panels, time was scheduled for people to interact informally, and to share their experiences and ideas around sustainable craft in a small-group format.
The symposium had several aims:
- Instill confidence, impart relevant and timely information, and provide useful tools to support sustainable creative practices on a regional level.
- Build infrastructure that will allow artists to continue to engage and communicate.
- Raise awareness about who exists and what is happening in the artistic and environmental communities across Unama’ki.
